The Taste Of Dreams

Last Wednesday, The Chubby Buddy and I were privileged to be invited to try out this new homebased pastry business' cakes. Chocolates and Creams sprung out of the desire of friends and business partners, Shela Camarinta and Melody Joy Tan, to bring their global sweetscapades to our budding city.

The Owners
Camarinta and Tan, after graduating Food Technology from Xavier University, decided to work in Singapore. Camarinta was the hygiene officer of Prima Deli and picked up a few things while Tan took up a course on Cake Presentation before they decided to come back home and venture into the world of chocolates and creams.

Desserts from Chocolates and Creams

Tamago
The term means 'egg' in Japanese. The two first encountered this dessert in Japan and decided that this is too wonderful not to share, so they brought it back here to give others the chance to try it. It's egg custard with cream and cashew nuts on top. The beta version of this did not include the cashew nuts and chocolate on top, they were added to give more color to this wonderful dessert. I tried it and found that the flavors really complimented each other. I couldn't imagine this dessert without the cashew, it certainly won't be the same!
Priced affordably at Php35 each

Oreo Dream Cake
They learned to prepare this dish from Singapore and this was their very first offering as a home based pastry shop. Sweetooths are certainly going to enjoy the oreo cream. Not only is it presented beautifully (it makes me want to buy it immediately just because of how it looks), it taste wonderful too!

Caramel Cashew Cheesecake
After thinking about it for a while, I dub this my favorite (biased because I'm a sucker for both cheese and caramel). The cookie at the bottom is perfect in flavor and goes really well with the cheesecake. The cheesecake isn't cheated with flour and is very consistent. They actually wanted to use merengue at the base but since it didn't work how ever way they tried it (bake the cake and merengue together, bake the cheesecake separately, and other attempts), they decided to use cookie. I'm glad they did! I'm not a very big fan of cookies but if it wasn't part of the dessert, I doubt I'd love it as much.

Chocolate Madness
I'm not into moist chocolate cakes (or chocolate cakes in general) but I did enjoy this. It is, for me, the most appealing of all their cakes in terms of presentation. I think it's because of the intricacy of merging the dark chocolate and white chocolate accents together. Visually, it's perfect. If class was a cake, this would be it.

Tiramisu
Layers of tiramisu cream and coffee sponge cake. Yum. Cocoa powder evenly used on top. Again, tasteful to the eyes and palate. Their cakes are, by far, the most attractive cakes I've seen around our area. They taste beautifully too, I hope each and everyone of my friends can try them, seriously!

Strawberry Divine
The strawberries are fresh from Dahilayan and if you might have noticed, their cakes have strawberries on top. In Singapore, they served their pastries with something red on top to catch the eyes of passerby's. They kept that tradition here, and it's quite obvious that their strawberry cake has that element in place. This is also one of my favorites. The white chocolate really balances acidity and sourness of the fruit. So you better think twice about disregarding the white chocolate (cheese-shaped)

Quench Yogurt Drink
To par these deliciously sweet cakes, the two were kind enough to let us try their deliciously fruity yogurt drink. They go well with the cake because, as I've previously mentioned, fruits and sweets go very together. The flavors are very rich so if you'd like to try them, visit their stall at the G/F of Gaisano City (in front of HBC)
