#FlashbackFridayAtBigbys!

Bigby's is a travel-inspired restaurant based in Cagayan de Oro city but with branches scattered around the Philippines. Its first store along Dvsoria featured 30 items, but now, through the years and with more travels, the present inventory lists 68 items. Last September 19, I was among the 130 people invited to celebrate Bigby's 16th birthday. It was a lot of fun! I got to see friends I haven't seen in a long time (lol, this semester's schoolwork has been sucking all my socializing time) and we had great hor d'ouevres to chew while we talked, met new friends and had a great time.

Time flies so fast and it feels like it was just yesterday when I came to their 15th Birthday Bash. I won a gift certificate for getting some of their trivia questions right. This year, they had more trivia questions and an exciting Bidding war, featuring items from all over the world. I'm sure you'll be able to see just how great a time we had if you check out the hashtag #FlashbackFridayAtBigbys on Instagram.

This year, they launched Flashback Friday to take back their loyal clientele and introduce the new ones to some of the restaurant's old time favorites like The Kimmy Chunky Stew (Father's Day, 1999), Chicken Julius and Tsunami Chops. I admire this willingness to listen from the brand, and I'm very excited to try these recommended (so much that they've been brought back) items on the menu. If you have, please hit me up on my social media for your two cents!

Aside from the flashback, Bigby's newly redecorated home reflects a personal journey. One of the founders, Mr. Henrik Yu, remarks, “When we started, it was all browns and wood, very neutral. Now, we’ve become more vibrant: adding blues, yellows and reds into our interiors”. It's definitely true. Although I miss the southern, homey-feel of the old interiors, the new ones are rapidly growing on me. It reflects some kind of artistic shift that makes me excited for even more forward approach to dining. I love Bigby's for its dynamics really, and how it not only suits the taste of CDO locals, but foreigners as well (to say that my dad loves this place is an understatement!)

The event made me very nostalgic of my first time in a Bigby's restaurant. I was about nine, my mom had a meeting with some people and told me to come over for dinner. I was awestruck, my eyes turning as big as they could get (and that's saying a lot since my eyes are a bit slanty due to my heritage), as I took in the interiors. I must admit, 9 year old me didn't have much care for traveling, but I remember that was the time that I began to understand just how big the world is, and how humbling and gratifying it was to be in the middle of it (quite literally, I was just standing dumbfounded in the middle of the room).

I wish I took more pictures but I was too busy having fun when I realized I haven't taken enough photos for my blog. I'm sorry, dear readers that you have to suffer for my negligence! To make up for it, I leave you with this treat:
